The Rare and Special Plant Fair at Glin Castle

12th of May

Castelul Glin, Glin, Județul Limerick

Event Description

Glin Castle, Glin, Co. Limerick will play host to The Rare & Special Plant Fair on Sunday 12th May 2019, with over 40 specialist nurseries and associated businesses on site to offer a vast selection of rare and unusual plants, advice on care and planting and much more.

The Rare and Special Plant Fair was established in 2001 with the assistance of Bord Bia, to ensure that the gardening public has an opportunity to purchase rare and difficult to source plants, while at the same time visit a garden of note that they may not otherwise visit.

Glin Castle, home for 800 years of the FitzGerald family, hereditary Knights of Glin, stands proudly in the middle of its 400 acre wooded demesne on the banks of the Glin Castle  Kitchen GardenShannon. The toy-fortress like quality is echoed by three sets of battlemented Gothic folly lodges.

The extensive gardens with 15 acres of pleasure grounds surrounded by formal lawns, a picturesque stream, meadow, winding gravel walks and ancient oak trees have been lovingly tended by generations of the Fitzgerald family. Catherine Fitzgerald, the daughter of the Late Knight of Glin, continues this tradition and brings her Garden Designer and plants-woman’s eye to the task.
